Dilemma
12:20 AM, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2008

Here's a situation at work - I'll try to be as vague as possible. Let's say you have two roads. One that offers plenty of experience, has a lot of potential for future, but is slow going - a chance to realize your dream in about two years. The other one gives you your dream instantly, but all other things are unclear (not absent, but unclear). Both are fun and both are stable. Which one would you choose?

Apache, MySQL and Php
2:30 AM, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2008

After years of resistance, I finally broke down and installed Apache, MySQL and Php on my home machine. Being primarily a Microsoft Technology guy who lived and breathed IIS, SQL Server and ASP.Net, this is a huge step for me. Let's see where this takes me.

No Halo until March
8:02 PM, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2008

Thanks to Comcast, I will not be able to play Halo 3 until March. Apparently they have over-subscribed people in the Redmond Ridge area and hence have reached the internet bandwidth capacity. This makes it impossible to connect to XBox Live during peak times (7PM to Midnight).

They say they're working on fixing the problem and should have a fix by March. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Comcast Internet
2:12 AM, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 06, 2008

I've had Comcast cable internet for many years and it's been great so far. But lately in the last couple weeks, my internet connection drops when I'm playing Halo 3 online. Very weird.

My ping times, according to the game, are terrible - always yellow, instead of green. And sometimes the game timer would just stop. I can hear my team mates talking and they can hear me talk, but the game is just stuck there for about a minute. And then it connects back again and everything seems normal. This happens for pretty much every game I played in the last couple weeks.

Any ideas on what I might have to get fixed? FiOS isn't availale where I live, BTW.

Zune: The item is missing or cannot be played
10:57 AM, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 01, 2008

I ran into an issue with my zune last night. It was docked and playing just fine. And then suddenly out of the blue, it started skipping songs in my playlist, not playing any one of them. When I tried to play just one song, it said "The item is missing or cannot be played." Pictures were okay and so were videos. Music was busted. Weird.

I thought it would be a bug and tried switching it off and then back on again. No dice. Then I left it switched off overnight - when the device goes to deep sleep. In the morning, the problem still existed. I tried connecting to my computer and everything looked normal, but the music just won't play.

So, I looked up on the web and found that several folks had the same issues. And so far the best suggested workaround for this problem is:

1. Connect the device to the PC
2. Go to Device Settings and click on "Erase all content"
3. Make sure all the content is gone from the device
4. Resync your music - yes, this was painful in my case because I don't want to choose the "sync all music" option.

Back from vacation
2:21 AM, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 01, 2008

I had been on a vacation, the last week, visiting my family. They're all mostly on the east coast, which by the way was very cold compared to Seattle. I met my two uncles and aunts, my cousins and my sister and brother-in-law. It was a lot of fun, but it sure is good to be back home.
