Small Basic is LIVE!

Remember this side project that I said I was working on for over a year now? Yeah - the one that consumed most of my weekends and nights? I'm just super-hyper-mega-excited to announce that it just got released to the world by Microsoft!!!!

The project is named "Small Basic" and is something that I believe will help beginners get started with programming, much in the same way we all did when we were kids!

I just started another blog, where I talked a little bit about the history of this project. You can check it out here.

Go check it out: Small Basic.

"Wow, how useless! I can understand your excitement, but this adds no value to anything. I can teach regular VB to children to have them learn the concepts. Congrats for your personal achievement, but I wish the dollars where better spent"

"
Scott, opinions differ. There are a lot of people that think VB is too hard to teach their children, and Small Basic is for them.

Also, all of this was done in my spare time as a pet project."

"Hi Vijay, I just wanted to say many thanks for Small Basic. I bought my kids aged 9 and 11 a laptop this Christmas. I was dismayed that they quickly found online games and wasted time in the never-ending empty quest to get to ""the next level"". I wanted to introduce them to the fun of the creative discipline of programming - a discovery I made with my first computer and Basic in 1983. I was looking for a compiler when I found Small Basic, which I think is better than what I had - it helps you write programs and you can run programs instantly. Now we're all programming.
